MALARIA/ LEPROSY/ T.B
TUBERCULOSIS (T.B.)
1. Awareness about TB :-a) TB is an infectious disease caused by a pathogen known as mycobacterium tuberculosis.
b) TB mainly affects the lungs; but it can also affect other parts of the body (Brain, Bones, Gland etc.)
c) T.B. is transmitted through air.
d) When an infected person cough out or sneeze out it releases the TB bacilli in the air in droplets forms and any body who inhale these droplets will be infected with TB and may develop this disease.
e) TB is 100% curable.
f) Diagnosis and treatment of TB are done free of cost at Microscopy centers under Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP).
g) DOTS – Directly Observed Treatment Short-course are done in DOT center and it is the backbone of RNTCP.2. Preventive Measures: -
a) Smoking and alcohol should be avoid.
b) An infected person should cover his/her mouth when coughing or sneezing.
c) The sputum of TB patient should collected in a container contains phenyl and burns it as final disposal.
d) TB patients should not share dish, towel with others and should not mingle with children.
3. Medicines/Medications :-a) Anti-TB drugs are available free of cost at all District TB Center, Microscopy Center and DOT
Centers.
b) Sputum examination are done free of cost at the District TB Center and Microscopy Center.
c) Medication is done under Directly Observed Treatment (DOT) short course Chemotherapy in RNTCP.District wise Tuberculosis Unit and Microscopy Centres are given below:-

n) DTC Imphal MC4. Advise/Announcement/Knowledge about the disease :-
A) Have 3 sputum examinations done if you have cough of three weeks or more. These tests are done free of cost at Government District TB Centre and Microscopy centres.
B) There are 9 District TB Centres, 41 Microscopy centres and more than 600 DOT centre in Manipur.
C) Complete TB Treatment ensures complete cure.
D) Haphazard and incomplete treatment delays cure and increases suffering.
E) The latest TB Treatment of Six months to eight months demands regular drug intake by DOTS till the patient is completely cured.
F) Symptoms Suggestive of Tuberculosis
1. Persistent cough for 3 weeks or more.
2. Weight loss.
3. Chest pain.
4.Tiredness.
5. Shortness of breath.
6. Loss of appetite
7. Fever, particularly with rise of temperature in the evening.
8. Coughing up blood (Haemoptysis).
9. Night sweats.If you have the above symptoms, consult to the doctor at your nearest Microscopic centre.
5. A) India accounts for nearly one-third of the global TB burden
40% of the Indian population has TV infection.
Every day in India more than 20,000 people become infected with the TB bacillus and more than 5,000 people develop the disease.
In Manipur nearly 30,000 people are suffering from TB Disease.
In India TB kill 14 time more peoples than any other tropical disease combined, 21 times more than malaria and 400 times more than leprosy.
TB kills more women than all causes of material mortality combined.
In India every year, nearly 5 lakh people die of TB – 1000 deaths per day, one TB death every minute.
Untreated TB cases spread the infection to others in the community : each infections patient can infect 10-15 individuals in a year unless effectively treated.
