Facts about STDs

STDs of sexually Transmitted Diseases (generally Called V.D.) are usually acquired through unprotected sex with an infected person.

Common signs of STD are sores, blisters, unusual discharge, burning during urination and pain during sexual intercourse.

Sometimes STDs have no signs. So, you can have STDs and not know it. Women  are less likely than men to have symptoms.

Gonorrhoea, Chancroid, Syphilis, Herpes, Genital Warts and AIDS are all STDs. They can all be sexually transmitted.

STD increases the risk of HIV / AIDS 8 to 10 times.

STDs can lead to infertility (Unable to have child.)

  • STD are very commin in urban and many rural areas.

  • STDs incidence rate is 5%.

  • STDs occur at an estimated rate of more than 40 million every year.

  • Only 5% - 10% STD patients attend STD Clinics. Other resort to self medication or traditional health care.

  • Majority of women with STDs remain without treatment.

  • STDs related myths, misconceptions, superstitions, discourage people to seek early treatment.

  • The number of young people who get STDs is increasing rapidly.

 

  • Early diagnosis by a Doctor.

  • Both you and your partner must be treated or the disease can pass back and forth.

  • If pregnant women with STD is not treated the baby can have serious problems.
